Binchotan is traditional charcoal from Japan. It dates back to the Edo period when a craftsman named Bitchu-ya Chozaemon started producing the charcoal in Tanabe, Wakayama, during the Genroku era. The raw material consists of oak, especially Ubame oak, today the official tree of Wakayama prefecture.

The only briquettes in the world made from Binchotan charcoal dust, are a true piece of art. These are not what is called Sumi Binchotan, but something entirely different and incredible. Fantastic heat and unrivalled burning time. Once you try them, there will be no way back!
